RADIO CONTROL SYSTEMS
When it comes to radio control, FM was undoubtedly better than AM. But now, for even better performance there is 2.4GHz radio control which uses secure digital data transmission to eliminate the signal interference that plagues the analogue transmission systems on AM and FM. Whilst 2.4GHz sets can be more expensive, they are far superior in performance and don’t use any crystals. It’s all done with micro-computer technology and collision avoidance software which identifies a free frequency. Gone are the days when you’ll have to apologise for accidentally using the same frequency as someone else at meetings! Also with more channels, they enable operation of more controls on model locomotives, other than just the regulator on steam locos, or the motor on battery locos. I can supply 2.4GHz sets by Futaba or Saturn. All are aircraft sets, having a better range than car or pocket size sets. This is particularly relevant if you’re using metal bodied locos.
